added on 9-24-06 Carne StationLast year there were 100 native English teachers in the public schools of Seoul. About 50 left. The S.M.O.E. wanted to increase the total to 200 this year...so there were 150 new teachers hired. Next year they will double the total to 400 and continue to do this for the next several years.The second year S.M.O.E. native English teachers wanted to hold a welcome event for all of the teachers who just arrived in Seoul. The event was held at a restaurant called Carne Station, where it is all you can eat and all you can drink for 25,000 Won (about $25).We were able to round up about 60 teachers for the event, and due to the large group they gave us a discount of 3,000 Won. Yay!When you go to Carne Station, the have a buffet of a half dozen soups, several various Korean style pastas, a variety of salads and other side dishes, and of course...many many many kinds of raw meat!! You pick the meat and bring it to your table where you cook it on a grill burner built into your table.You can also enjoy a variety of beers and a selection of wines and liquors that are situated in a liquor tap machine...which is just the coolest thing known to man!!To finish your meal you may enjoy cookies or soft serve ice cream. Yum!!Needless to say...after several weeks of rice and limited serving sizes, my stomach did not respond to well from the sudden influx of large amounts of food.
